Meet Our Founder & Senior Principal
Mark Bartel founded Aretas Group (formerly Asset Geotechnical Engineering / AssetGeoEnviro) after senior roles at GHD, Dames & Moore, and Coffey, bringing more than 40 years of geotechnical expertise to the business. He has led landmark projects including the M2 Motorway investigations, the Eastern Gas Pipeline, the Sydney Harbour Islands audit, and alpine infrastructure at Thredbo and Perisher.

Recognised for his G4 competency across Sydney Water assets and his command of advanced 2D/3D numerical modelling, Mark has built Aretas into a consultancy trusted for clarity, compliance, and solutions that last. Today he leads every engagement's senior direction — driving the firm's multidisciplinary growth and mentoring the next generation of engineers.

2000
Founded: Asset Geotechnical Engineering Pty Ltd
We set out to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, responsive geotechnical engineering — and quickly earned a loyal client base. Those values still define us.
2019
AssetGeoEnviro established
A new trading name reflecting our growth into environmental services and the natural link between geotechnical and environmental solutions.
2025
25 years, one new name: Aretas Group
To mark a quarter-century — and our growth across groundwater, environmental, civil, structural, and expert witness services — we became Aretas Group. One name, one contract, one trusted team.
2011
First numerical modelling project
A deep basement excavation beside Burwood Train Station, modelled in PLAXIS 2D to secure Sydney Trains' approval. Since then: dozens of 2D and 3D FEM projects approved by Sydney Trains, Transport for NSW, Sydney Water, and local councils.
2024
5,000th project delivered
In October 2024 we celebrated successful completion of our 5,000th project, serving over 2,000 clients.
